Volkswagen has confirmed its new electric estate car will be called ID.7 Tourer when it arrives in the UK next year. The German carmaker revealed the ID.7 saloon in April, but has now published the first photographs of the roomier Tourer version.
Despite the camouflage the pictured car wears, it's clear to see Volkswagen has tread a fine line between a wind-cheating shape and offering a roomy interior.
Despite swooping roof line, boot space has been prioritised The swooping roofline gives the Tourer similar aerodynamics to the ID.7 saloon, and yet there's still a 545-litre boot that expands to 1,714 litres when the rear seats are folded. That's quite a bit less space than you'll find in the new 2024 Volkswagen Passat Estate (which only comes in petrol, diesel and PHEV forms), but comfortably more than any other electric estate car that's on sale for now.
Like the saloon, the Tourer will use VW's largest battery. At 86kWh, it should give the electric estate a similar range to that of the saloon, which is rated at 435 miles. Both cars will receive VW's latest 15-inch touchscreen and overhauled infotainment system.
The ID.7 Tourer will arrive next year and we'd expect prices to kick off at around £45,000.
