Vauxhall has revealed the first images of the new Frontera, a new SUV which fits in above the Mokka in the company’s range and will offer a combination of space and value.

It will be available as a battery-electric variant from launch, with customers also able to opt for petrol variants with 48-volt hybrid technology.

The new Frontera, which revives a name last used in the early 2000s, has a more boxy and upright look than other Vauxhall SUVs. This maximises the interior space - with the back seats up, it offers 460 litres of luggage space, and with the seats folded down, it increases to 1,600 litres.

There are no official details of the electric powertrain yet, but it is thought the Frontera will use a new motor and battery combination which will major on efficiency and low cost. It is thought that the car will be around the same starting price as the smaller Mokka, with the cheapest models costing less than £27,000.

Inside there is Vauxhall’s familiar ‘Pure Panel’ cockpit with two 10-inch displays and Multimedia infotainment system. The company is also introducing an ‘Intelli-Seat’ feature in the front seats, with a slot that relieves the pressure on the tailbone like on bicycle saddles. It is said to improve comfort even during long journeys.

There are other innovations too. There’s a cooled wireless charger to prevent your phone getting too hot and larger devices such as tablets can be safely stored in the centre console with a flexible strap to hold them in place.

The Frontera is due to go on sale in the last quarter of 2024.
