BYD is set to drop its widely mocked ‘Build Your Dreams’ badging from the tailgate of UK models following feedback from owners and journalists. Following an overwhelmingly negative reaction to the badging in reviews and on social media, the ridiculed slogan will no longer be in evidence on UK specification Atto 3 and Seal models.
Speaking to the media at the launch of the brand’s new Seal model, BYD’s European Customer Experience Manager, Tim Bryant, said: “We’ve listened to customer feedback and thanks to our rapid supply chains, Seal models for Europe will have discrete badging.” Test models prepared for the European launch have already been stripped of the badging and bosses have confirmed that new Atto 3 orders will also ship with a simpler badge design.
However, Dolphin customers hoping to benefit from BYD’s change of plan are likely to be disappointed. While the ‘Build Your Dreams’ lettering on the Seal and Atto 3 take the form of glued-on badges, the logo on the Dolphin is embedded in a perspex strip that forms part of the tailgate. Although BYD has yet to confirm whether this can be easily changed, it seems unlikely given the requirement for a new part.
The Dolphin is set to go on sale in the UK next month and will be the second BYD model in the UK following the launch of the Atto 3 earlier this year. The Tesla Model 3-rivalling Seal is set to arrive by the end of the year, ahead of a fourth model – the Seagull – which is tipped to launch early next year.
