Citroën has bolted the new updated and advanced powertrain from the Jeep Avenger and Vauxhall Astra into its ë-C4 and ë-C4 X and created one of the most efficient electric cars on sale.
Prices for the new model start at £37,195 for both ë-C4 and ë-C4 X, but the company will also keep the older powertrain on offer at a lower price, starting at £31,995.
The new battery and engine combination give a range of up to 260 miles between charges – a 17% improvement over the existing 50kWh battery option. As before, it supports rapid charging at to 100kW, with an 80% charge completed in around 30 minutes.
The claimed official efficiency level of around 5.2 miles per kWh would make the ë-C4 and ë-C4 X some of the most economical cars on the market, beating models such as the Tesla Model 3 and marginally bettering the Astra, which manages a 258 mile range on the same battery.
The new electric powertrain is only available on the new range-topping trim level called ë-Series. The 51kW version costs £900 more than the older version.
