Citroen has confirmed its electric city car, the e-C3, will start from £21,990, making it one of the cheapest EVs on the sale in the UK.

Available from July, the e-C3 undercuts all current Chinese superminis such as the MG4 and BYD Dolphin, and is only beaten on price by the £14,995 Dacia Spring and Citroen's own Ami. The latter, priced at £8,995, is technically a quadricycle, though, and not an electric car.

Citroen is offering the e-C3 with two trim levels in the UK. Entry-level 'Plus' a 10-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition, cruise control with speed limiter, and Citroen's famous comfortable seats.

'Max', from £23,690, adds a rear parking camera, automatic air conditioning, LED rear lights, dark tinted windows and a heated steering wheel and front seats.

All e-C3s get a a 44kWh battery pack and a 111bhp electric motor. Claimed range is 199 miles while 0-62mph should take 10.8 seconds.

The e-C3 will arrive in July along a petrol C3 that uses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, and the range will widen to include a hybrid by the end of the year, and a cheaper electric version in 2025. The even cheaper e-C3 will have a smaller range and a lower price tag of €19,990 (£17,250), but it's unclear yet if Citroen will offer this version in the UK.
