Fiat has launched a cryptocurrency scheme that rewards new electric 500 owners for driving more efficiently. The scheme has been developed in collaboration with British tech startup Kiri Technologies and allows drivers to receive KiriCoins for their efficient driving style. Owners can then exchange these for vouchers on some of Brits’ favourite services such as Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Spotify and Airbnb.
The new 500 is equipped with an eco:Score function that ranks the efficiency of the driver from 0 to 100. Higher levels of efficiency will lead to a greater number of KiriCoins and rewards.
According to Fiat and Kiri, drivers covering an average yearly mileage of 6,200 miles, could collect KiriCoins worth around £125 - the equivalent of 18 months of Netflix or 12 months of Spotify subscriptions. Drivers can also take advantage of the brand’s recent partnership with Airbnb to book accommodation.
To sign up for the initiative, drivers have to download the Fiat app and register on the Kiri platform. Drivers can then use the app to check the KIRI coin balance they have accumulated. Once they have collected enough coins, drivers can exchange them for vouchers.
