Hyundai's premium brand Genesis might only have been in the UK for a matter of months, but it's now revealed its first bespoke all-electric car.
Called the GV60, it uses the same major components as the Hyundai IONIQ5 and Kia EV6, but it's aiming for posher end of the electric SUV market.
That's because Genesis is Hyundai's premium sub-brand which launched in the UK this summer, promising a 'luxury' ownership experience.
Genesis GV60 is posh sister car to Hyundai's IONIQ5 and Kia EV6 The GV60 will sit below the new GV70 and GV80 SUVs in Genesis' UK range, and becomes the second electric car the brand has launched, following on from the G80 Electric saloon. The GV60, however, is Genesis' first bespoke electric car as the G80 also comes in petrol and diesel forms.
Not a huge amount is known about the GV60 at this stage, but we can guess it will come with the 78kWh battery from the Kia EV6 with two- and four-wheel drive and have a range of up to 300 miles. The electrical system's 800V technology will allow ultra-rapid 350kW charging, too.
Just like the rest of the Genesis range, the GV60 adopts a clean, almost generic design which makes it stand out from the more sharply styled IONIQ5 and EV6. Like the Kia, the GV60 has a coupe-SUV profile with a sloping roof and bluff rear-end, and there are cameras for wing mirrors to give a cleaner, more aerodynamic shape.
‘Crystal Sphere’ lights up when the car is turned on Inside, two 'floating' screens take centre stage and a large centre console gives plenty of storage space. The feed from the camera mirrors is displayed via screens attached to the doors, while between the passengers sits a drive gear selector called a ‘Crystal Sphere’. Along with the G80 Electric and the GV60, Genesis will launch one more electric car for European buyers. In Europe, Genesis doesn't plan to have standalone dealerships or shared showroom spaces. Instead customers configure and order their car online and it's delivered to their home.
Genesis is yet to reveal when the GV60 will arrive in the UK and how much it will cost.
