Luxury Korean brand Genesis has revealed a new concept car which hints at the look and direction of future models.
The new show car, a drop top called the Genesis X Convertible, shares its electric powertrain with the 2021 X Concept and X Speedium Coupe concept and was the work of the Genesis Advanced Design Studio in Frankfurt. It took just six weeks to go from the initial idea to show car, two weeks to design and one month for the build.
Featuring a folding hardtop roof that houses individual glass panels above the front occupants, the exterior has a bespoke ‘Crane White’ paint finish coated with pearl particles and quad LED lights are a feature on both the front and the rear.
The pared back interior of the X Convertible concept features a four-seat layout. Inspired by traditional Korean roof architecture, the primary interior colour is Giwa Navy, which takes its name from the “Giwa”, the roof tiles used on Korean houses. Made from recyclable wool fabric, the textured and woven trim wraps around the cabin.
The company confirmed to Electrifying.com at the Los Angeles Auto Show that there's a strong chance the Genesis X Convertible will make it into production, with a T-shape battery pack to enable it to keep a low centre of gravity. Any production version will be a similar size to the show car and will also feature its LED light bars.
Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke, said: “Electric powertrains have given us the perfect scenario in which to enjoy nature, which is something convertibles do better than any other vehicle. With the Genesis X Convertible, we have built upon the stunning success X Concept and X Speedium Coupe to further propel the brand’s mission to create vehicles with even greater emotional resonance.”
