Gridserve has opened its second Electric Forecourt, and the first of its smaller ‘compact’ sites. The new charging hubs is located at Broadland Gate Business Park, adjacent to the A47 and hosts 22 high-power chargers with up to 350kW of power, eight Tesla Superchargers and six low power AC chargers. Humans can recharge with Costa Coffee, M&S Food, and WHSmith.
The hub more than doubles the number of high-powered chargers in the region and opens up access Norwich city centre as well as improving connections to surrounding areas such as Ipswich, Cambridge and Peterborough.
The ‘compact’ design means the site is half the size of Gridserve’s existing hub in Braintree in Essex. This has been achieved by placing the chargers underneath the building, rather than spread out over the site.
The 'compact' site has 36 chargers Norwich has recently received government funding to assess the viability of a zero-emission zone in a bid to cut air pollution from the city centre. If the plan goes ahead, all petrol and diesel vehicles could be banned from the city, making emission-free electric vehicles essential.
Gridserve plans to deliver over 100 Electric Forecourts across the UK. now in progress, including one at Gatwick Airport which is near to completion. Several additional Electric Forecourts also have planning permission including Uckfield, Gateshead, Plymouth and Stevenage with more than 30 additional sites also under development as part of the company’s commitment to deliver over 100 Electric Forecourts.
Plans are underway for sites in Basildon, Bromborough (Wirral) and Markham Vale (Chesterfield).
