Hyundai only launched its hot Ioniq N last summer but already the Korean carmaker is keen to up the ante.
The firm used the Tokyo Auto Salon this week to reveal its potential next stages for the model. The Ioniq 5 N NPX1 showcases a raft of performance upgrades and specialised tuning components from Hyundai's N Performance Parts division. They've been designed to 'enhance the high-performance electric vehicle ownership experience,' said Hyundai.
The NPX1 dispenses with the regular Ioniq 5 N's rally-inspired baby blue paintwork and red trim, and instead opts for a meaner black appearance. The body receives a whole host of extra features, including a carbon front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and a rear wing spoiler.
The makeover is topped with a set of lightweight carbon alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres. Behind these hide high performance brakes and lowered suspension, while inside features track-ready racing bucket seats and Alcantara trim.
While it's a concept car for now, Hyundai says the prototype parts will be 'further developed for production in preparation for sales in 2024' and will be available first on the Ioniq 5 N.
“In 2024, Hyundai Motor Company will take a step forward as a leader in new tuning parts suitable for the high-performance EV era as demonstrated with the ‘NPX1’ concept model,” said Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group.
“Not limited to tuning parts, we are also developing software customisation such as sound and vehicle calibration by OTA updates which will open a completely new category of EV customisation for an exciting future ahead for the tuning community.”
