Kia hatches EV4 early – and there's a surprise...

Kia will be pulling the covers off a trio of new models later this month. The grandly named Kia EV Day on February 28 will showcase the new EV4, a Concept EV2, and Kia's first electric van – the PV5.

The new vehicles were expected to be kept under wraps until then, but usually Kia has decided to bust its own embargo and reveal the EV4 early – and in so doing has even shocked the team at Electrifying.com.

Our very own Ginny saw the EV4 behind closed doors in a top secret facility last year, and there presented in the studio was the EV4 in all of its saloon car glory. But these new pictures show that the forthcoming electric saloon will also be joined by a more conventional hatchback.

Both cars are the first electric EV-branded Kias to not be SUVs, and will therefore appeal to different buyers including fleets and company car drivers. They will rival the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai IONIQ 6.

Their front-ends feature Kia's now typical 'EV Tiger Face', with vertical headlights, but from the windscreen back they differ substantially. The saloon features a long, sloping roofline giving a coupe-cum-fastback look, while the hatchback is more conventional.

Two versions of each bodystyle have been revealed – the standard design (most likely to be called 'Air' just like the EV3 and EV9) and 'GT-Line', the latter having a sportier look with chunkier bumpers and more intricately designed alloy wheels.

No technical details have been published so far, but the EV4 pair are expected to use Kia's E-GMP platform, along with 800V architecture for ultra-rapid charging. More information will be revealed at the car's official reveal at the Kia EV Day.
