MG has launched a new longer range version of its MG5 EV estate car, and it instantly becomes the best value electric car available with a range of 250 miles and a price of £26,495 after the grant.
The new longer range model will continue to be sold for the time-being alongside the standard car, which has an electric range of 214 miles and a price of £25,095.
The new model gets 11kWh more battery capacity and a slightly raised ride height With a 250-mile range from its 61.1kWh battery, the new longer range MG5 EV will take an 80% charge in just over an hour on a 50kW rapid charger or 40 minutes on a 100kW rapid charger, with a maximum input of 77kW. A 100% overnight fast charge takes approximately 9.5 hours on a domestic wall box.
Like all MG models, the MG5 comes with a seven year/80,000-mile warranty as standard. It is powered by a 154bhp electric motor giving acceleration of 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds.
A full charger on a home wallbox takes about 9.5 hours Also new on the long range model is the addition of MG’s Pilot Driver Assistance System. This suite of safety tech was first seen on the ZS EV and includes Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Intelligent High Beam Assist and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist. This means the car drops five insurance groups.
The MG 5’s range miles per £ ratio is £105.98 per mile of official range. The next closest rival is the Vauxhall Corsa-e SE NAV Premium which is currently on a special offer at £22,360 with 209 miles, giving it a price/mile of £106.99. In third place is the VW ID.3 Pro 58 at £107.65.
