BMW has revealed the newest M5 Touring, and for the first time it uses a PHEV powertrain to boost performance and efficiency – especially for company car drivers.
The M HYBRID drive system gives combined output of 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, enough for a 0-62 mph time of 3.6 seconds and an electric-only range of 42 miles.
There is some practicality too, with load-carrying capacity of up to 1,630 litres with 40:20:40 split-folding seats.
BMW’s M division first introduced a Touring variant of the M5 back in 1992 alongside the second generation of the BMW M5 Saloon. It then skipped a couple of generations until 2007, and again until now.
Prominently flared wheel arches, side skirts and the M-specific design of the front and rear bumpers distinguish the BMW M5 Touring from lesser 5 Series Tourings.
As in the BMW M5 Saloon, the BMW M5 Touring’s hybrid system produces a maximum output of 727 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm. At the same time, the electrified powertrain enables emission-free driving with a range of up to 42 miles according to the official cycle. AC charging is up to 11 kW.
Order books open today, with the M5 Touring priced from £112,500. UK customer deliveries start in early 2025.
