Mazda has slashed the price of its MX-30 by over £2,000, meaning the electric crossover joins a limited number of EVs that cost less than £30,000.
The MX-30 now starts at £28,995 – £2,255 lower than before – and Mazda will throw in a free Pod Point home charger with all orders. For finance customers, the Japanese carmaker has introduced a 0% hire purchase offer with a 40% minimum deposit, and a four-year 0% PCP deal with no minimum deposit.
The new lower entry price sees the MX-30 slip under the £30,000 price barrier again. The sub-£30,000 market is a growing battle ground for carmakers as they seek to target customers making the switch to electric cars for the first time, and at affordable price. The MX-30 is now one of a small handful of more affordable EVs, which include the Nissan Leaf, BYD Dolphin and the Electrifying Best Money Saving Electric Car of 2024, the MG4.
The price cut comes as Mazda aims to 'ramp up' sales of the MX-30, and car manufacturers are tasked with selling more brand new EVs this year. From this month, at least 22% of new cars sold by carmakers have to be zero-emission.
The MX-30 comes with a 35.5kWh battery, which gives a claimed 124 miles of range. Standard kit for the £28,995 Prime-Line trim includes LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, radar cruise control with speed assist, sat-nav and a head-up display.
