MG is planning to reboot its classic sportscar with an all-electric roadster for the 21st century. Design sketches of the Cyberster concept have been released by the brand’s Chinese parent company SAIC, and clearly show styling cues from the much-loved MGB which was once the best -selling sportscar in the world.
Concept uses classic MG styling cues The MG brand was made famous by its affordable two-seater roadsters, especially the Midget and MGB which were popular across the world in the 1960s and 70s. The badge was then used mainly on sporty versions of Austin and Rover models until the MGF helped fuel a roadster revival in 1995.
After the collapse of MG Rover, the brand was sold to a huge Chinese car maker which has used it on a series of hatchbacks and SUVs, including the ZS EV electric car.
Cyberster could bring glamour back to MG brand The Cyberster concept is the first hint that it may be planning a return to the roadster market. The sketches show a bold and modern style, but there are clear links to the classic MGB in the shape of the bonnet and headlights.
There’s no word on when the car might go into production, but expect to see a finished concept model later this year which will used to gauge potential customer demand for such a car.
