Hyundai has confirmed final UK pricing and specifications for the new Inster baby SUV. Set to be Kia’s entry-level electric offering, the Inster range will start from £23,495 and will come with two battery options. The newcomer is a re-engineered version of the Korean-market Casper and is being introduced to give Kia a presence in the all-important sub-£30,000 electric market.
As promised, Kia has opted to go big on equipment rather than offer a stripped-back budget offering. At 3.8m long, it’s roughly the same length as the Dacia Spring, and smaller than the Citroen e-C3. However, at 1,610mm wide, it’s narrower than both its budget rivals.
In terms of design, the Inter shares its pixel graphics on the front bumper with the IONIQ family and adds a bold skid plate for a tougher look. Inside, the Inster features dual 10.25-inch displays: a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment touchscreen while navigation. The centre console also houses a wireless charging pad for phones while customisable door trims allow owners to personalise their driving environments. The interior offers walk-through access between the front row seats along with the ability to create a full flat load and passenger area.
Available from launch with a standard 42kWh battery or an optional Long-Range 49 kWh battery, the Inster offers two motor options delivering either 96bhp or 113bhp. Both motors deliver 147Nm of torque.
As for range, the Long-Range model offers a projected range of up to 229 miles on a single charge based on estimated energy consumption of up to 4.2 mi/kWh. The Standard Range model offers a provisional range figure of 203 miles on a single charge. Final WLTP figures for both are expected to be confirmed shortly.
Standard equipment includes an 11kW onboard charger, a battery heating system, and a high-efficiency heat pump for optimised range and charging times. The Inster also comes with external and internal Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing users to power external devices like laptops, bicycles, and camping equipment.
From launch, the Inster will be available with two trim grades. The 01 starts at £23,495, and includes 15-inch alloy wheels, digital instrument cluster, touchscreen with navigation, keyless entry/start and air conditioning. It can be specified with both battery options.
Priced from £26,745, the 02 trim builds upon the 01 spec with additional features like 17-inch alloys, LED lighting, privacy glass, heated seats, and a sliding rear bench. The 02 can also be further customised with a black roof and door mirrors, and a Tech Pack that adds V2L functionality and a digital key system.
In addition to confirming on the road prices for the new Inster, Hyundai UK has also announced PCP pricing which will be available from launch. The Inster 01 42kWh costs from £248.57 per month (including a £500 deposit allowance), the Inster 01 49kWh is from £267.03 per month while the range-topping Inster 02 49kWh is priced from £295.62 per month.
