Kia has revealed pricing and specifications for the refreshed Kia EV6, with pre-orders now open. Arriving nearly three years after it was launched, the new model comes with a larger battery, even faster charging and a new front end design.
The headline change is a new 84kWh battery that replaces the previous models 77kWh pack. According to Kia, this has been achieved by increasing the cell density of the pack while keeping the physical dimensions the same. In the entry-level Air trim, this powers a single rear-wheel drive motor, delivering 225bhp and 350Nm of torque. The EV6 Air variant delivers the biggest increase in range, jumping from 328 miles under the WLTP cycle to 361 miles. All-wheel drive models post a more modest increase with the GT-Line now offering 339 miles and the GT-Line S coming with 324 miles.
Kia has also boosted the EV6’s charging system, raising peak speed from 240kW to 260kW. According to the Korean brand’s own figures, the rise in charging speeds means that the new version can add a 10-80 percent charge in just 18 minutes - exactly the same figure as the previous model. That equates to more than 200 miles of range in less than 20 minutes.
Another major change affects the front end design, which has a new look that ties it more closely with the recently-launched EV9 and forthcoming EV3 baby SUV. Characterised by shallow LED strips and a larger light cluster placed lower in the bumper, the black elements also feature a simplified design. Revised lower side mouldings and a new rear diffuser with central fog light with horizontally-stacked light strips complete the exterior design overhaul.
Inside, the revised EV6 features fewer design changes but still packs a host of detail upgrades. The long and wide infotainment screens are the same size as before but are driven by a more powerful processor that minimises swiping lag and is quicker to boot when the car is started. Kia has also introduced a new fingerprint recognition system, with the reader placed by the start and stop button. Once set up, this allows different drivers to enjoy their own bespoke set-up preferences for seating position and infotainment. Further to this, Kia is also introducing a new digital key system that will allow owners to open and start the EV6 with a smartphone or smartwatch.
Wireless Apple CarPlay, a notable omission on the original car, is now standard across the range, along with a fast-charging (15W) pad.
Prices for the new EV6 start at £45,575 for the entry-level Air model, rising to £53,675 for the new GT-Line S mode. The revised model is available to order from September 2 with first deliveries expected late Autumn.
