MG Motor UK has confirmed that the all-new MG S5 EV—the replacement for the long-standing ZS EV—will land in UK showrooms this spring. Already revealed in China as the MG ES5, the electric crossover is built on SAIC’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), which also underpins the best-selling MG 4 EV hatchback.
That means the S5 EV is slightly larger than the ZS EV, measuring 4,480mm long and 1,850mm wide, offering improved cabin and boot space. Under the skin, it shares its drivetrain with the MG 4, with an entry-level 168bhp motor, while more powerful 201bhp Long Range and 241bhp Extended Range variants are expected to follow.
MG is offering three new lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs, providing 264, 320, and 326 miles of range on China’s CLTC test cycle—though official WLTP figures for the UK are yet to be confirmed. Given past discrepancies between the two test cycles, expect a real-world figure closer to 230-300 miles, depending on the version.
Inside, the S5 EV gets a significant step up in quality over its predecessor. A 10.25-inch digital driver’s display sits ahead of the driver, while a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen dominates the centre console. MG claims an increase in premium materials throughout, which the brand says will “raise the standards in the SUV segment.”
Practicality also sees an improvement, with 462 litres of boot space—a slight increase over the current ZS EV’s 448 litres.
While exact pricing is yet to be confirmed, the MG S5 EV is expected to undercut the outgoing ZS EV, which starts at £30,495. That suggests a price closer to £28,000, keeping it competitive against rivals such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and Peugeot e-2008.
More details, including UK-specific specs and range figures, are expected closer to the spring 2025 launch.
