British buyers can finally get their hands on the latest version of Tesla’s Model S and X flagships, including the 200mph Plaid versions, with almost instant delivery. The downside is that the cars are only available with the steering wheel on the left side and there are no plans to introduce right-hand drive in the “for the foreseeable future.”
This will be a disappointment for buyers who have been on the waiting list for months or even years, and it may come as a surprise that the cars are already at the docks.
In an email to customers, the company has offered an incentive of three years of free, unlimited Supercharging if they accept a left-hand-drive car, or £2,000 credit towards a Model 3 or Y. It will also refund deposits if requested.
The cheapest Model S available for delivery now is a Dual Motor at £95,480. It has a 405 mile range, ‘yoke’ steering and Autopilot. The Plaid – which has a claimed 1.99 second 0-60 time – starts at £114,930.
The Model X starts at £99,930 for the Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive, with the cheapest Plaid at £124,780.
Production of right-hand-drive Model 3 and Y is not affected by the decision.
