Nissan has unveiled a new Hyper Urban electric car concept ahead of the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo later this month. The concept is one of four the brand will show as part of its activities at the show.

According to Nissan, the Hyper Urban “represents future design and technological capabilities of Nissan’s electric offerings”, which suggests that some styling elements are likely to make production at some stage in the future. The concept features large scissor doors and a five-seater interior that Nissan claims is so comfortable that owners can use it as a living space, should they have doors wide enough to park it inside their home.

The cabin design was inspired by kaleidoscopic triangles while the main instrument panel comes with a customisable display that can be changed according to the driver’s mood. The front seats can also be collapsed and folded into the rear seats to provide a larger living space.

The Hyper Urban also showcases Nissan’s latest charging tech and comes with a Vehicle to Home (V2H) system that allows owners to use the car’s battery pack to power their homes. The concept also comes with Vehicle to Grid (V2G) tech that allows for surplus energy to be sent back to the grid at peak times. Both systems are run by an Intelligent Charging Management system that uses AI to calculate the optimum times to charge.

The concept also features a number of future-proof features that aim to extend the car’s life beyond what owners can normally expect. These include a removable and replaceable  instrument panel that can be changed when new technology allows.
