A Nissan LEAF has been drafted in as an emergency polling station for the local council elections in Cambridge after staff had problems accessing the Milton Road Library in Cambridge.
The polling staff rapidly repurposed the electric car after failing to get the keys to open the venue. The official signs were stuck to the side of the car facing the pavement and the votes were cast in the ballot box the boot of the car.
The @votecambridge social media team said on X: "Voters at Milton Road Library get to experience the rare sight of voting from the back of a car as we've had problems getting into the building … hopefully we'll be in soon but for now our polling staff are doing a great job ensuring early voters can still cast their vote!"
The staff were able to access the library a couple of hours later and the LEAF was relieved of its democratic duties.
