Chinese electric car brand XPENG is confirmed to be coming to the UK, and will be brought in by the same company behind Subaru, Isuzu and Ora - International Motors.
The first XPENG set to launch in the UK will be the all-electric G6, a mid-size, coupe-style SUV. This is said to be tailored for European preferences, and includes 800-volt systems for faster charging. The G6 was also recently awarded a Euro NCAP 5-star safety rating.
In Europe, the G6’s prices and specifications closely match the Tesla Model Y, with the rear wheel drive Standard Range variant with a 66kWh battery, costing around £40,000. The top version with a 87.5kWh battery and all-wheel-drive costs around £50,000.
William Brown, Managing Director at International Motors Ltd said “We are delighted to formally announce a distributor partnership with XPENG. IML has been working with XPENG for some time, and this was highlighted with the UK debut of the XPENG G6 at the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year. This new long-term agreement demonstrates IML’s ambition to seek alliances with forward-thinking partners that share the company's values. Both parties look forward to launching the impressive G6 to UK customers in early 2025.”
Since deliveries began in Norway at the end of 2020, the brand has been introduced its in multiple countries, including Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Iceland, Spain, and Portugal, with further expansion underway. By the end of 2025, XPENG aims to be present in over 60 global markets, with an ambition to achieve half of its total sales from international markets.
The company has also been selling a Model 3 rival, the P5, in Europe. It has a range of 289 miles, from a 66kWh battery. The boot is usefully large too, with a 450 litre capacity and an additional 70 litre compartment under the floor for cables.
The company is also famous for its work on a prototype flying vehicle, called the XPENG X2.
