PodPoint has signed a three-year partnership with McCarthy Stone, the UK developer and manager of retirement communities.
The company will supply and install electric vehicle home chargers at every parking space in new McCarthy Stone developments. With one in four of the UK population expected to be over 65 by 2037, according to official government predictions, the ‘later living’ sector is growing fast. To meet anticipated demand, McCarthy Stone is expanding its retirement communities with future plans to build 60 new developments a year.
Recent research conducted by McCarthy Stone suggests that people aged 65 or over are embracing the switch to electric vehicles by prioritising charging points when buying a new home. Over four in 10 of the over 65s look for a charging point when considering a move to a new property.
The PodPoint partnership follows on from updates to building regulations mandating electric vehcile charging points in all new-build properties in England. The regulations came into force in June 2022 and form part of the government's strategy to reduce emissions. All new residential developments must have one 7kW charge point for every residence with a parking space.
