Kia releases pictures and full details of the production version of the EV5, a compact electric SUV
The 4.6m long Kia EV5 uses the company’s dedicated EV platform, called E-GMP, which is also used in the EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6.
The standard model, equipped with a 64kWh battery pack and a 215bhp motor, is expected to have a driving range of around 330 miles per charge. The long-range model, featuring an 88kWh battery, is expected to reach 450 miles per charge.
The long-range AWD model will have two motors producing 308bhp. With the AWD EV5, Kia is targeting a driving range of 405 miles. Additionally, the EV5 offers fast-charging capability, allowing the battery to be charged from 30 to 80 per cent capacity in 27 minutes.
The 4.6m long SUV will rival the VW ID.4 An advanced heat pump system is standard to preserve power in cold weather and an i-Pedal system will allow drivers to both slow down and accelerate using a single pedal.
The EV5 will also be available as a ‘GT’, offering further performance features and engaging driving experience. More information regarding the EV5 GT trim will be revealed later.
Inside, the EV5 features a Panoramic Wide Display, which combines a 12.3-inch cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment system, along with a 5.0-inch climate control display.
The car also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functions. With V2L, the high-voltage battery can supply power to external electronic devices. Kia will concentrate on rolling out V2G in regions where the necessary infrastructure exists, enabling surplus battery energy to be shared with the grid. This will include Europe and the UK from 2025.
A large 'panoramic' screen sweeps across the facia Family-friendly features include full-flat folding second-row seats which are said to provide a comfortable bed. The rear console can be used as a refrigerator or warmer with a temperature range of five- to 55-degrees Celsius and has a four-litre capacity.
To enjoy the food or cold drinks, there is a ‘Multi Table’ luggage board in the boot, which can instantly be transformed into a table.
The EV5 is expected to go on sale in the UK in the middle of 2024, with prices starting at just under £50,000
