Renault ends sales of Zoe to make way for next-gen models

Renault has confirmed that it is ending UK sales of the Zoe supermini. 

The groundbreaking electric hatchback has been a major success for the French firm, selling almost 400,000 units globally since its launch in 2012. But it is now being discontinued to make way for the next generation of electric models including the Renault 5 and 4. 

Production of the supermini is due to end in March 2024 but a Renault spokesperson told us that while customers can still buy a new Zoe from its existing UK stock, it is not taking any new orders.

The news comes at the same time as Honda confirmed that its rival to the Zoe - the Honda e - is also being removed from sale

The Zoe was a pioneering model, being among the first affordable electric cars with impressive real-world range. A heavily revised version arrived in 2019 with a larger 52kWh battery and, even today, its 238-mile range is impressive for a car of its size. However, it made headlines in 2022 when it became just the third car ever to be given a zero-star rating by safety body Euro NCAP.

The Zoe will be replaced by the reimagined Renault 5 hatchback, which will make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show on February 26. Renault has already confirmed that the 5 will also feature a 52kWh battery, this time with a range of up to 248 miles but has not given any indication of motor power or performance. It is expected to cost around £30,000 when it arrives in the UK in early 2025. 

The 5 will be joined by a cheaper Renault 4 crossover, which is also due in 2025, taking Renault electric range to four, including the Megane E-Tech, which is already on sale and the larger Scenic E-Tech SUV, which will hit dealerships early in 2024. 

Retro-styled 5 will replace the Zoe in Renault's future line-up
