Renault has teased us with close up pictures of the production version of its 5 E-Tech, the new electric hatchback inspired by the classic Renault 5. It will reveal the full car and details on the 26th February at the Geneva Motor Show.
The car will measure 3.92m long, making it smaller than the current Zoe. It uses a 52kWh battery giving it a range of up to 248 miles (WLTP). This battery will be the first available when orders open.
The electric Renault 5 E-Tech will be the first vehicle built on the new AmpR Small platform (formerly called CMF-B EV) which uses multi-link rear suspension, usually found only on larger, more expensive cars.
Inside the 5 will feature connectivity which will feature ‘Reno’, Renault's official avatar. This ‘humanised co-driver’ will help navigate the technology inside the car.
The back lights help with aerodynamics The Renault 5 E-Tech electric will be the first production Renault to feature V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technology. It will allow the car to supply energy to the grid, saving money on charging and cutting overall electricity bills by selling electricity back to the grid.
The pictures show the car will closely resemble the concept car revealed in 2021.
The air intake on the bonnet of the historic model has disappeared and replaced by a charge indicator light forming the number "5" when the vehicle is fully charged. The vertical rear lights include a function extending the side panel. This feature contributes to the aerodynamic performance of R5 by preventing air turbulence.
Renault is also offering customers a way to ‘jump’ any potential queue for the car by purchasing a £150 ticket which will allow them to get the first cars off the production line.
Fancy being first in the queue? That'll be £150 please
