Smart’s new ‘hashtag’ range is growing in every sense of the word. The company has released sketches which show the look of its next model, the #5 – and it’s a whopper. At 4705mm long by 1920mm wide and 1705mm tall, the new model will  be similar in size rivals such as the Ford Mustang Mach e.

The mid-size SUV will open up a new segment for Smart, catering to new target groups and consumers with an active lifestyle. The World Premiere will take place in Brisbane, Australia on August 28, and the vehicle will be available in Europe from 2025.

Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe said: “With the #5, we have created our most spacious and versatile vehicle to date. The #5 is a great expansion of our existing portfolio and will make the smart brand an attractive choice for more and more customers in Europe.”

There are no official details of the specifications yet, but rumours based on Chinese patent applications suggest it will have a battery of around 100kWh and an 800V electrical system. Rear and all wheel drive versions will be offered, with some producing more than 600bhp.
