Tesla has opened its first UK site featuring the latest ‘V4’ Superchargers which are designed to make it easier for non-Tesla owners to charge. The new ‘pods’ are located at the Tesla Centre in Tottenham, north London.
The V4 Supercharger features a 3m charging cable which will enable most electric cars to reach the ports which having to straddle parking bays. This has been an issue at other Tesla points which have allowed access to other brands.
The new V4s also have contactless card payment terminals – a first for the Tesla network. Nissan Leaf owners will have to go elsewhere though, as the points will only work with CCS sockets, and there is no CHdeMO available.
The points currently charge at 250kW, but have the ability to reach higher charging speeds in the future.
Tesla says it plans to upgrade several existing Supercharger sites and the majority of the planned new sites to have V4 points which will be open to all cars.
