Toyota has announced that it is entering the large commercial van market for the first time with the arrival of the Proace Max.
The new van will go on sale in 2024 as a fully electric model alongside standard diesel versions, offering class-leading range and load carrying in the electric segment, as well as a variety of body configurations.
The new van - a product of Toyota’s partnership with Stellantis and therefore shared with Vauxhall, Citroen, Peugeot and Fiat- is powered by a 268bhp motor with 302lb ft. A 110kWh battery offers class-leading range of 261 miles and there’s 150kW charging to add 80% in less than an hour. AC charging at 11kW is also standard.
In standard panel van format, the Proace Max offers best-in-class load and towing capabilities, with a 17m2 maximum volume, 1,800kg payload and 2,000kg towing capacity.
Electric panel vans will be available in four configurations using two heights - 2.52m and 2.78m - and two lengths - 5.99m and 6.36m, as well as seven other body-on-frame formats, ranging from a single cab with exposed rear frame to a crew cab tipper.
