Volvo has named the price for its new EX40 and EC40 SUVs and opened order books.
The EX40 and EC40 are the new names for the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, after Volvo sought to bring the pair in line with its other electric models, EX30, EX90 and EM90.
The EX40 kicks off at £45,955 for the entry-level Single Motor Core version, which gets a 236bhp electric motor driving the rear wheels and is powered by a 69kWh battery, giving a range of up to 295 miles. Core trim gets Google software for the infotainment system, LED headlights and a powered tailgate.
Volvo has also introduced a new Single Motor Extended Range model which pairs the Twin Motor's 82kWh battery to a 249bhp rear motor. Volvo claims a combined range of up to 343 miles in the EX40 and 346 miles in the EC40. It commands a £1,750 premium over Single Motor versions and is priced from £47,705.
The more coupe-styled EC40 range starts with the Single Motor Plus at £52,555 and the car's pricing is pegged in line with the equivalent EX40. Plus models get ambient lighting, upgraded alloy wheels, a contrasting black roof, a heat pump and extra safety equipment.
Twin Motor models start with the Plus trim at £57,805 and get an electric motor on each axle to give four-wheel drive. Total power is 402bhp and Volvo claims a range of 331 miles in the EX40 and 340 miles in the EC40.
The new Ultra trim, replacing Ultimate, sits at the top of the range and only comes in Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor guises, priced at £58,355 and £61,855 respectively. Ultra adds a panoramic roof, 20-inch wheels, a 360-degree camera and a Harman Kardon sound system.
Buyers can also choose an option Performance Pack for Twin Motor models if they wish, which bumps power up from 402bhp to 436bhp. Volvo hasn't revealed the price for this yet but did confirm the pack will be available to owners of older XC40 and C40 Recharge cars.
