Could the Volkswagen ID. Buzz be about to get a cut-price rival from Chinese brand Zeekr? The Mix is set to be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show next month and has been revealed in filings to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Set to be positioned below the Zeekr 009 and Volvo EM90 large MPVs, the Mix is 4.7 metres long, 2 metres high and 1.7 metres wide and comes with a wheelbase of 3.0 metres. The dimensions make it identical in size to the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, which is set to be launched in China later this year. Unlike the 009 and EM90, which both offer a seven seat layout, the Mix will be a five-seater.
While the two filed images show an all-white model, numerous spy videos have shown two-tone models undergoing testing, which suggests that Zeekr sees the Mix as a direct competitor to the German machine.
According to the filed documents, two versions will be offered to Chinese domestic customers. Although no battery capacities have been confirmed, the electric motor has a quoted output of 415bhp, double that of the current ID. Buzz. The documents also confirm that the batteries will use NCM rather than LFP chemistry and will be supplied by Chinese manufacturer CATL. Given its size and the fact that it shares its underpinnings with other Geely Group models, the Mix is likely to be offered with a 86kWh pack, which should offer in the region of 300 miles of driving range. Like other models in the Group, it will feature an 800 volt electrical system which will deliver DC charging speeds of up to 350kW.
Although Zeekr has yet to confirm sales and distribution plans for the Mix, its size and specification suggests that it has been designed with the global market in mind. According to other media reports in China, a European market launch is part of Zeekr’s plans with late 2025 being the most likely timeline.
