Whether you are new to electric cars or upgrading from your current one, the Kia EV3 has been designed to make electric driving easy.
Kia’s experience in building electric cars stretches back more than a decade, and the EV3 brings together all the expertise Kia has gained from its leading position in the market.
Some of this technology won’t be obvious to you, but it will be working to maximise range and efficiency. Other features will make you smile and wonder how you lived without them!
The Hidden Advanced Tech
The heart of any electric car is the battery pack. The Kia EV3 uses fourth-generation battery cell technology to provide an incredible range and fast charging, with added convenience too.
The Kia EV3 is available with two battery options; the larger has an official WLTP range of up to 375 miles – enough to get you comfortably to Scotland from London. This is partly due to Kia’s Battery Management Unit (BMU) and Cell Monitoring Unit (CMU) technology, along with advanced motors that ensure the EV3 is as efficient as possible.
In a first for Kia, the EV3 is equipped with its latest i-Pedal 3.0 technology, which allows the driver to adjust the level of regenerative braking according to their preference. This maximises efficiency and reduces tiredness in traffic, allowing the accelerator pedal to be used alone for almost all driving.
Engineers have also paid attention to every detail in the body’s aerodynamics, enabling the EV3 to slip through the air with minimum resistance. It incorporates a full 3D cover underneath the car to smooth the airflow, plus active aero flaps that open and close at certain speeds to improve aerodynamics or prioritise cooling. This design delivers an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.263Cd.
It’s not just the EV3’s motors that can be powered from the battery. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging is available on the EV3 GT-Line S, turning your car into a mobile power bank capable of running any standard electrical device from the EV3’s three-pin socket. This means you can have a fridge or hairdryer while you’re camping, use your car to power a hedge trimmer, or even plug in your coffee maker for an al fresco espresso

Charging Ahead
When you do need to charge, the EV3’s advanced tech ensures you can get back on the road with minimum inconvenience. With many chargers to choose from in the UK, Kia’s Plug and Charge function allows you to simply arrive at a compatible rapid charger and plug in without the need to tap payment cards or navigate through apps. The charger will automatically ‘shake hands’ with the car, and the cost will automatically be sent to your account.
Before you even reach a charger, your EV3 will be preparing to charge thanks to its preconditioning system, which ensures the battery is at the right temperature for optimal charging. This clever system—controlled via the EV3’s app or infotainment system—can also prepare the car for your preferred cabin temperature while it’s still connected to a charger. This means your car will be warm and cosy on a cold winter's morning, and it also helps preserve battery range, as less energy is required to adjust the cabin temperature while driving.
When you next need to charge, the fast-charging speeds mean you won’t have to wait long. A 10-80% charge takes around 30 minutes for the 58.3kWh EV3 (if you're charging at a 400-volt electric vehicle charger delivering at least 150kW of electricity), while a 100-mile top-up can be done in 15 minutes on a suitable charger—ensuring that charging up won’t slow you down.
Big Screen Thrills
Inside the EV3, the technology is accessed mainly via two 12.3-inch screens and a smaller 5-inch display, which merge into an almost 30-inch combined widescreen. This extends to the centre of the dashboard, giving the front-seat passenger access to entertainment and navigation features so they don’t feel left out on the journey.
You’ll also find a 12-inch Head-up Display (HUD) that projects essential information onto the windscreen in front of the driver, ensuring they don’t need to shift their gaze more than a fraction to check the speed and navigation instructions.
Just like in Kia’s flagship EV9, there are also physical buttons and touch-sensitive switches beneath the screen to make it easy to hop between the home menu and key functions. This means the features you use the most can be accessed quickly and easily to minimise distraction while you are driving.
The built-in sat-nav has a charger search function, as well as ChatGPT voice control in the ‘Kia AI assistant’, which learns how you speak and remembers common requests. As you’d expect, you’ll find wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing you to use your favourite phone apps on the move.
Over-the-air software updates will keep the software up to date, and a variety of optional apps on the Kia Connect Store can be downloaded to personalise your EV3.
You can unlock more technology using Kia’s Digital Key. The latest version fitted to the EV3 allows you to avoid the hassle of carrying physical keys by unlocking and starting the EV3 using only a smartphone or smartwatch. You can also conveniently and securely share the EV3’s digital key with friends, family, and colleagues if necessary.
