Citroen has opened order books for its new range-topping model, the C5 X. Described as a cross between an SUV, a traditional saloon and an estate, the French flagship comes with the option of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that promises up to 34 miles of electric-only range.
Inspired by the CXperience concept car, as well as Citroen’s previous flagship XM and CX models, the C5 X serves up a further evolution of the brand’s quirky design language. Inside, Citroën has created what it describes as a ‘lounge-like’ interior with special new seats and ambient lighting. The new C5 X also debuts Citroën’s latest infotainment system that features an ultra-wide, 12-inch HD touchscreen with ambient backlighting.
C5 X Hybrid models combine a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an 81.2kW electric motor powered by a 12.4kWh Lithium-ion battery pack, for a total power output of 225bhp and 360Nm of torque. According to Citroen, the C5 X can drive for up to 34 miles in full-electric mode. C5 X Hybrid models emit 30g/km of CO2 – making them eligible for an 11% Benefit-in-Kind taxation rate.
The hybrid variant feature with three driving modes – Electric, Hybrid and Sport. Electric mode gives up to 34 miles of zero emissions range, while Hybrid offers the best of both worlds. Sport maximises performance from both the electric motor and the petrol engine. Drivers can also adjust the regenerative braking mode while an ë-Save function allows drivers to reserve electric range for later in the journey – when arriving in city centres or urban areas, for example.
The C5 X Hybrid comes with a 7.4kW single-phase on-board charger, a Mode 3 charging cable with a Type 2 connector, as well as remote temperature pre-conditioning. Customers can choose from three trim levels; Sense Plus, Shine and Shine plus with the plug-in hybrid model costing between £27,990 and £38,680. The car is available to order now with first UK deliveries expected late Spring.
