Vauxhall has revealed first details and images of the new Corsa ahead of arriving in the UK later this year. It will feature Vauxhall’s more distinctive 'Vizor' front end across the range as well as a number of additional styling and technology improvements, while the fully electric model is upgraded with Vauxhall’s next-generation battery technology, boosting both range and performance.
The Vizor front end was first seen on the Mokka, and is composed of a single smooth panel that sits between the LED headlights, housing the driver aids and safety technologies. Other updates include 17-inch alloy wheels with a new black-effect detailing, while a shark fin antenna can also be found at the rear of the car.
The headlamps can now feature LED Pixel Matrix lights, which automatically cuts out oncoming road users from the beam, ensuring drivers have a clear view of the road even in dark and poor conditions without dazzling others.
New for Corsa Electric is Vauxhall’s next-generation 51kWh electric battery first seen on the Jeep Avenger. This, combined with an upgraded electric motor producing 154bhp results in the New Corsa Electric delivering more performance whilst achieving 255 miles (WLTP) between charges – a 15% increase from the previous 50kWh powertrain.
At launch, buyers will also be able to buy the existing 134bhp motor and smaller battery as supplies of the new powertrain are constrained. This achieves up to 222 miles between charges.
All of the new Corsa Electric models come as standard with an 11kW on-board charger, allowing for a 0-100% charge to be completed in 5hrs and 15 minutes. The same full charge using a 7kW home wallbox is estimated to take 7hrs and 30 minutes. On a 100kW+ rapid charger, a typical 10%-80% charge will take 30 minutes.
The old battery and motor will continue to be available too, until supplies of the new bits loosen up
Inside, the new Corsa features an upgraded infotainment system with Vauxhall’s latest-generation user interface. The interior sees the touchscreen upgraded to 10-inches, while the 7-inch driver instrument digital display benefits from new graphics.
In front of the instrument display is an updated steering wheel design, while new seat patterns and a new shift lever are other interior styling upgrades.
As part of the infotainment upgrade, New Corsa models are available with wireless smartphone charging for the first time, with smartphone users able to connect with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Connected 3D Navigation is also available on New Corsa, as are Over-the-Air updates allowing owners to access the latest features without taking their vehicle in to a dealer. A new high-resolution panoramic rear-view camera helps with manoeuvring.
Full UK pricing and specification is set to be announced in the summer, with first deliveries set to start in the autumn.
