MG is expanding its popular ZS range with the introduction of a new entry-level Standard Range model. Available to order now with prices from £27,495 (inc grant), the new variant comes with a 51.1kWh battery (49kWh usable), which is 6.6kWh larger than the previous Standard Range model offered.
The new MG ZS Standard Range has an official WLTP range figure of 198 miles, which should result in a real-world range of around 160-170 miles. MG claims that the new, bigger battery will deliver around 35 miles more than the previous model. It comes with rapid DC charging at speeds of up to 85kW, which means a 10-80% charge will take around 36 minutes on a suitable charger.
The Standard Range model uses the same electric motor as the Long Range model, but thanks to a technical quirk, it actually delivers more power. Due to the different operating voltage of the different battery sizes, the MG ZS Standard Range has a higher equivalent power output of 176hp. That’s 22bhp more than the range-topping Long Range version.
The newcomer will be available with three trim levels; SE, Trophy and Trophy Connect. All models come with a 10.1-inch colour touchscreen infotainment app and MG’s new iSmart app while the mid-spec Trophy models add a 360° parking camera, wireless phone charger, heated front seats and a panoramic roof. Range-topping Trophy Connect versions add MG’s live services function that includes live traffic information and Amazon Music streaming.)
