Seven new electric Fords due in next two years

Ford has announced it is to launch seven new electric vehicles to be built in Europe by 2024 – three new passenger vehicles and four new vans.  

The first will be first a medium sized crossover SUV, starting in 2023. This will be built on Volkswagen's MEB electric car platform and will be the first product to be launched following Ford's agreement with Volkswagen to share the technology. The best-selling Puma will get a 100% electric version in 2024 and be joined by a sports crossover, the same year. 

On the commercial side, an all-new Transit Custom 1-tonne van along with a passenger-carrying Tourneo Custom will go electric in 2023. A smaller, next generation Transit Courier van EV will arrive the following year. 

With this extended range in Europe, Ford expects to sell 600,000 electric vehicles annually by 2026, which the company says will help it achieve zero emissions for all vehicle sales and carbon neutrality across all its European facilities, logistics and suppliers by 2035.

Puma will go electric in 2024

Ford has previously been slow to react to the electric revolution, with the Mustang Mach E hit by supply problems and no other pure-electric offerings. The electrified Transit arrives later this year and will boost the company's zero-emission offering substantially. Today's announcement proves the company is taking battery cars seriously at last, although buyers may be disappointed to see there is no mention of an affordable small car.
