Volkswagen has released what is expected to become the most popular ID.7 model – the estate. The ID.7 Tourer is one of just a handful of all-electric estate cars which aim to challenge the large SUVs which dominate the big EV sector.
The ID.7 Tourer differs significantly from the hatchback at the rear. Thanks to the increased roof height, the ID.7 Tourer has a luggage capacity of up to 605 litres with the rear seats in place or 1,714 litres with them folded. This is bigger than the recently-revealed BMW i5 Touring.
The ID.7 Tourer is equipped with the same electric drive system as the hatchback model, with two different battery sizes – 77 or 86kWh, with the larger pack giving a range of 425 miles.
The largest battery is designed for a maximum charging capacity of up to 200 kW at DC quick-charging stations. At this power level, the battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes.
Sales are scheduled to start in the first quarter of this year, but no prices have yet been revealed. It’s expected the Tourer will start at around £54,000
