Vauxhall slashes Corsa-e and Mokka-e prices by £3,000

Vauxhall has sliced £3,000 off the prices of the Corsa-e supermini and Mokka-e crossover in response to the newly revised Government Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG). It means prices for the Corsa-e now start at £25,905 for the SE model and rise to £29,410 for the Elite, while for the Mokka-e, they now stretch from £29,365 to £30,495.

It's the second time Vauxhall has slashed prices of the pure-electric duo this year – on both occasions it was as a result of the Government changing the threshold and eligibility criteria for the Plug-in Car Grant.

Last week, ministers surprised the car industry by changing the PiCG, moving the threshold down from £35,000 to £32,000 and cutting £1,000 off the subsidy, saying the move would 'target less expensive models' as sales of EVs soared this year.

It means cars now costing £32,000 and less are eligible for the grant, which cuts the car's RRP by £1,500.

The electric van grant has also been revised with large vans (2-3.5 tonnes) now attracting a £5,000 saving rather than the £6,000 previously on offer, while small LCVs up to 2.5 tonnes can save £2,500 – it was previously £3,000.

Vauxhall is the first carmaker to announce cutting prices in light of the changes to the PiCG.

Vauxhall's managing director, Paul Willcox, said: "Vauxhall wants to move the UK to electric motoring as quickly as possible, which is why we have committed to being an electric-only brand from 2028.

"In light of a further evolution to the government Plug-in Car Grant, we have taken the decision to change our pricing policy on our all-electric Corsa-e and Mokka-e models. With more attainable pricing from significant reductions on both models, as well as the grant, we hope to put zero-emissions-in-use motoring within the reach of even more British motorists."

Last week Vauxhall said the Corsa-e and Mokka-e would now benefit from range improvements. The Corsa-e is now being able to travel up to 222 miles on a full charge, up from 209 previously, while the Mokka-e can travel up to 209 miles, previously it was 201 miles.
