If you’d prefer your charger to blend into the background, then the Hypervolt EV Charger might not be the best choice for you. With its array of flashing lights it’s about as subtle as a disco ball.
Hypervolt offers it in three colours: black, dark grey and white, all with the cable attached – or tethered in charger jargon. Unusually, there is a choice of 5m, 7.5m and a massive 10m – the longest we know of – for an extra £42 and £90 respectively. Hypervolt also offers a Type 1 plug for owners of the original Nissan Leaf and some other early Japanese EVs – that’s something or a rarity these days.
All the cables wrap neatly around the unit, keeping the look neat even when you are not charging. You can also specify a substantial ‘tower’ to mount the charger if you need it to be further away from the house – it is a £300 extra though and will add to the installation costs.
With its intelligent power management system, the Hypervolt EV Charger optimises power usage to balance the use in your home and does have solar matching features too, allowing you to make the most of renewables generated at home without taking expensive energy from the grid too.
The Hypervolt doesn’t integrate with some of the more advanced EV energy tariff deals available like Octopus intelligent or OVO Anytime, however you can schedule off peak and charging times within the app. It’s also one of the few chargers to offer Alexa integration to check if the car is charging.

The Hypervolt EV Charger offers plenty of tech and style. We also like the options such as a long cable and Type 1 plug which could make it the only practical choice for some. However, some may find its flashy LED lights off-putting.
