Easee ONE charger review

The Easee One looks pretty basic, but actually has a decent amount of tech and an unusual Scandinavian design which is unlike any other charger. There’s even a choice of five different coloured facias which can be changed if you get bored or want to match your car. 

There’s no screen on the unit – just an LED status indicator – with all of the controls being done via an app. 

It’s only sold without a cable - known as untethered – which means you’ll need to buy one separately or use the one provided with your car, but you can lock the lead into the charger permanently using the app to create a semi-tethered option for convenience. Bear in mind that you’ll need to use a hook to store it though, which will ruin the style somewhat.

The Easee can work with solar however, users will need to buy an additional gadget for this to work. The unit allows for scheduling of charging for cheaper off peak energy but it doesn’t currently offer integration to advanced EV-specific tarriffs such as OVO Anytime or Octopus Intelligent.

Access to charging can also be controlled by RFID ‘Keys’ which could be useful if you have multiple users or share a car park. 

The One also uses a built-in mobile network data card (with a lifetime free connection) with no option currently to connect to Wi-Fi. This is unlikely to cause issues in areas with strong and stable mobile coverage, but could cause some frustration in patchy coverage areas.
