Pricing
The iX1 is priced comparably to other premium electric SUVs from Audi and Mercedes-Benz, which means prices are on the steep side. At least the iX1 is well equipped, though.
The trim line-up is standard BMW, so the range kicks off with the Sport, then it's xDrive followed by top-spec M Sport. Basic equipment includes the large curving screen for the infotainment and instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera with rear parking sensors, and a powered tailgate.
BMW has easily bundled the most desirable options into packs. The Technology Pack for £1,680 adds a range of features including adaptive LED headlights, while the £2,890 Technology Plus Package features a head-up display and more.
Running costs
Plug the iX1 into your 7kW home wallbox and it'll take less than 11 hours and cost just over £17 for a complete charge. A rapid charge (average tariff of 79p) should cost under £50.
Insurance
Which insurance group the BMW iX1 sits in differs widely depending on which version you choose. The eDrive20 cars sit in groups 29 to 30, while the xDrive30 starts at 37 and rises to group 38. The pricer models aren't cheap to insure, then, but the iX1 is on par with rivals such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge Twin and is far cheaper to insure than the Tesla Model Y, which starts at group 46.
Servicing costs
Most of BMW's electric cars, such as the iX3 and i4, have a servicing schedule of every two years or 20,000 miles. To keep costs down BMW offers a service plan, which at the time of writing was around £400. This covers the vehicle for the first four years.
