Pricing
Ford ramped up the prices of the Mach-E a few years ago, but since introducing the LFP batteries and new trim lineup in 2023, the starting price of under £44,000 makes it much more competitive with rivals including the Tesla Model Y, Peugeot E-3008, VW ID.4 and Renault Scenic. Monthly prices are also very good, with zero-interest PCP finance deals on offer, and monthly prices from around £400- to £700 per month depending on the contract terms.
The Mach-E GT is a bit different as it pushes well into price territory that it struggles to justify. If you can get a great monthly finance deal then don't discount it, but going by the list price and finance costs available at the time of writing, premium rivals like the BMW iX3 offer more for your money at the GT's price point.
Running Costs
Topping up that battery will be no more expensive than any of its rivals, so expect to pay around £18-£23 for a full charge on a standard domestic tariff, or you save over half of that cost if you stick to low-cost, off-peak tariffs. Even without an off-peak saving, that works out at under 8p per mile; roughly half what you pay to fuel a petrol car doing 40mpg.
As with all electric cars, the Mach-E falls into a 2% Benefit in Kind (BiK) company car tax band, making it vastly cheaper than comparable petrol cars, or even plug-in hybrids.
Insurance
The Mach-E falls into insurance groups 37- to 42, which is on a par with the insurance ratings you'll find on most rivals - although the Model Y is more expensive. Always get a personalised insurance quote before committing to any vehicle, as your driving history, address and various other factors can all make a huge difference to the cost of insurance.
Servicing costs
Ford offers a servicing plan that allows monthly payments to spread the cost, though the three-year, 60,000 mile warranty on the vehicle and eight year, 100,000 mile warranty on the battery isn’t as generous as some rivals (notably from Kia and Hyundai). Expect the car to need a service every two years or 18,000 miles, although it will bing a message onto your screen when some maintenance is due, and that can vary depending on how the car is used.
