A neatly packaged, compact seven-seater with all the usual Mercedes refinements. The updates in 2024 brought a usefully longer range and lower price, too.

Ginny Says

“I quite like the honesty of the design, and being able to carry an extra two passengers is good - especially as there just aren't any other electric cars that do quite what the EQB does in terms of practicality. I just wish the cabin didn't feel a bit old-fashioned next to some other electric cars.”

Nicki Says

“Having the option of seven seats is great, and with the long range model now the cheapest option in the range, the EQB really is quite tempting if you don't want a huge car but do want occasional use of seven seats. ”

Two battery options in the EQB offer a range of 255- to 321 miles, so it'll go a similar distance in between charges to most rivals. It's just a shame that it doesn't charge a bit faster when you do need a fast top-up.

  • Range:255 - 321
  • Battery size (usable):66.5 to 70.5kWh
  • Charging time (home wallbox):10 to 12 hours
  • Charging time (150kW):30 mins

Range

Our pick of the two battery options is Mercedes EQB 250+, which gets the bigger 70.5kWh (usable) pack. It was only introduced in early 2024 when the EQB range was facelifted and it's only available with a single electric motor that drives the front wheels, so you do miss out on the four-wheel drive and punchier performance of the EQB 300 4Matic and EQB 350 4Matic.

We're fine with that compromise, though, as the EQB 250+ get a very decent claimed WLTP range of between 290- and 321 miles depending on what spec and wheel size you choose. Not only that, but it's the cheapest model in the range as well as the most efficient. You can read more about that if you click through to the Pricing section.

Battery

The 300 and 350 models both get dual electric motors, and keep the 66.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack that the EQB has always used. These models are usefully more powerful than the 250+ but official WLTP range drops to between 248- and 255 miles depending on spec and trim.

In terms of real-world range, we'd expect to see around 180- to 230 miles from the 4Matic models, and 230- to 300 miles in the 250+. A heat pump is standard across the Mercedes EQB range, which should help with more efficient cold weather range, too.

Charging

The Mercedes' rapid charging speed tops out at 100kW, which is good enough for a 10-80% top-up in around 35 minutes but is still slow compared to rivals like the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV9, which can charge at over 200kW. Both of those alternatives will manage a 100 mile top-up (when plugged into a fast enough charging station) in around 10 minutes, while you'll be waiting at least 20 minutes in the EQB. It's also a shame that there's no bi-directional charging, to allow you to charge devices from the car's high voltage battery, or to let you put power back into the grid at peak times.

The EQB does come with a 'plug-and-go' service option, called Mercedes Me. Sign up to it via the phone app, save your account details, and it means that you can plug in at a variety of public charging stations - including Ionity stations - and you don't even need to tap your card. The car just communicates automatically with the charging station and starts to charge.
