Ginny Says

“There are countless electric car start ups and it's difficult to know which ones will survive. Nio looks like it could make it though, especially since it has the all-important billionaire backer!”

Nicki Says

“Not many people remember that the Tesla Model S was launched with the promise of battery swap technology, but in the end it was too complicated. If Nio can master solid state batteries, you won't need to swap.”

Who are Nio?

The company is a Chinese 'start up' which was formed in 2014 and backed by a billionaire. It has sold 250,000 cars in China and is now expanding to Europe.

Is the ET7 the only car Nio is bringing to the UK?

No - the company has plans for a full range including the usual family SUVs which will be the big sellers.

How does Nio's battery swap system work?

In China there is a network of swap stations, where drivers can drive in and five minutes later drive out with a battery charged to 100%. The company plans a similar network in Europe.

How much is the Nio ET7?

Well, it's actually difficult to tell, as the car will only be sold by leasing, which means owners won't get too precious about the battery being swapped all the time. It's expected to cost about the same to lease as an Audi e-tron GT.

Does the Nio ET7 have solid state batteries?

Not yet, but they are promised by 2023 and are said to have super-fast charging and give a 600+ mile range. Which will sort of make the battery swap stations pointless.
