Ginny Says

“I think the Megane looks great, and the only hatch that drives as well is the Cupra Born, but I did hope for better real-world range. ”

Nicki Says

“I love the Google-based infotainment, it works really well. Plus, there’s a good blend of buttons and screens.”

Pricing

The Megane’s list price is very competitive, and undercuts rivals like the VW ID.3 and Cupra Born. Sure, the MG4 makes it look a bit pricey, but the MG4 does that for most other electric family hatchbacks and crossovers. And Renault is also offering some really good lease and PCP finance deals, so if you’re looking to pay monthly then you can probably get payments down to close to £300 per month even with a fairly modest desposit. That’s actually a similar amount to the MG, and much cheaper than what most other rivals will cost on monthly finance.

Running costs

The Megane isn’t the most efficient electric car in the real world, so you’ll probably see around 2.8- to 3.3 miles per kWh depending on the conditions. An electric car is always less efficient in very cold weather, and at consistently higher speeds, so expect to get low range on a winter motorway drive, and good range when it’s warm and you’re on slower roads. The Megane will probably manage about 160 miles as a worst case scenario, and around 220- to 230 miles in the best conditions.

Charging at home, that means you’ll be paying roughly £14 for a full charge, or around 6- to 8p per mile depending on what efficiency you’re seeing. Use an off-peak tariff, and you can cut that by more than a third. Even if you don’t use an off-peak tariff, the Megane will be much cheaper to fuel than a comparable petrol or diesel car. Mind you, public rapid charging is much more expensive and will put the cost-per-mile for the Megane on a par (or even above) those of a ‘normal’ petrol hatchback.

Insurance

The Megane falls into insurance groups 24- to 26, making it one of the more affordable electric family cars to insure.

Servicing costs

You can get fixed price servicing for the Megane from £10.99 per month, and can cover your major and minor services for three- or four-years depending on which plan you choose. The Megane has a flexible servicing schedule, and will pop a message up on the screen when it needs attention, but expect a nudge every 12- to 18 months, or 12,000 miles.
