We admire the Astra's ability to squeeze more miles out of less energy - it is one of the most efficient electric cars we've tested. It's also good to drive. But it has less space and performance than rivals which makes it difficult to justify the inflated prices.

Ginny Says

“It's a real achievement that Vauxhall have managed to make the Astra more efficient than every other competitor. That's going to save money on the running costs in the long run, but you'll need it to pay for the car's steep purchase price.”

Tom Says

“The Astra used to be a massive seller, but I can't remember when I saw one of the new models on the road. Perhaps the lower running costs of the electric version will start to steer buyers away from SUVs, especially when the estate arrives.”

What is the range of the Vauxhall Astra Electric?

The official range is 258 miles, which is pretty impressive for this size of battery.

Will there be a Sports Tourer estate version of the Astra Electric?

Yes - it's due in early 2024 and has a much more useful boot - 516-litres of space with the seats up, 1,553 with the seats folded. Not only bigger than its hatchback sibling, but noticeably a touch bigger than the MG5 as well.

How fast can the Astra Electric charge?

All Astra Electrics get 100kW DC charging which, on a big enough charger, should see 80% in just over half an hour, and standard 11kw AC charging, so you’ll be able to charge overnight on a bigger home wall box in five and half hours

How much does the Astra Electric cost?

A lot! The GS grade lists at just under £40,000, with the better-equipped ‘Ultimate’ weighing in at just over £43,000. That’s punchy for a car badged Astra. There's now a cheaper 'Design' trim at £37,795 but that still looks expensive compared to rivals.

Does the Astra Electric have any interesting tech?

There's nothing which will really make your friends coo with excitement. But the Intellilux LED headlights have a bonkers 84 LED elements and the driver's seat is comfy enough to have been certified by the German Campaign For Healthier Backs, no less.
