Pricing
The ID.3 has been tweaked and updated, and also made more affordable over the years since its launch in 2019. Now, it's one of the better value options in the electric family car class, especially if you look at PCP finance - which isn't at all far off the MG4 that remains the affordability benchmark for electric hatches.
We'd go for the 58kWh Match Pro, as the best balance of affordability and equipment, but we'd add the heated seats and electric seat adjustment for a bit of additional luxury and comfort. Mind you, the 77kWh Pro S is well worth considering if you think you'd benefit from the longer range, and it's also good value given the range and charging speeds that few rivals can match at this price. More than that, there are some fantastic finance deals available on the ID.3, including low interest offers that bring monthly payments down to as little as £300 per month - even with a very reasonable deposit or part-ex. So the ID.3 may well be more attainable than you think, if you're paying for your car on a monthly basis.
Running costs
Anyone used to the running costs of a petrol or diesel version of a car like a Golf will be very pleasantly surprised by the ID.3. Road tax is zero, the ‘fuel’ costs will be about a third of what it costs to fuel a petrol car doing 40mpg, provided you're charging at home routinely, and company car benefit-in-kind rates are just 2% for the tax years until April 2025, and then it remains very low at 3% for the year 2025/26 and 4% for 2026/27. That alone will save a four-figure sum for anyone who chooses an ID.3 as a company vehicle rather than a petrol, diesel or hybrid. Insurance can be higher on electric cars than equivalent petrol cars, at the moment, so make sure you get a quote before committing to the ID.3.
Insurance costs
The ID.3 falls into insurance group 25- to 27, so is very competitive with rivals like the Cupra Born when it comes to insurance. It's always best to get a personalised quote for any car before committing, though.
Servicing costs
There is no fixed mileage servicing intervals on the electric ID. family of cars, as the car will bing a message up on your driver's readout when it needs attention. Expect this to be roughly every two years depending on the sort of mileage and driving that you normally do. VW will charge £372 for a fixed price service plan, which will cover one major service and one MOT, so should cover your routine servicing needs for the first three- or four years.
