Lexus has unveiled an updated RZ electric SUV lineup, and it has added range, refinement and rapidity.

The highlight is the debut of the RZ 550e F Sport, the brand’s first F Sport variant in its battery-electric range. The new model features a 402bhp twin motor all-wheel-drive system, an innovative steer-by-wire setup, and a virtual manual gear-shifting function.

The revised RZ series, set to launch in the UK in early 2026, also delivers improved efficiency, with up to 60 additional miles of range and faster charging capabilities.

The RZ 550e F Sport serves as the range’s performance flagship, producing 402bhp (300kW) via its dual-motor AWD configuration. It features an Interactive Manual Drive system, which simulates an eight-speed manual gearbox using paddle shifters. Like the Hyundai Ioniq 5N, the system includes synthetic engine sounds, throttle feedback, and a shift guide meter to replicate traditional gear-shifting dynamics.

It stops short of using a ‘stick shift’ and fake clutch pedal though. These have been seen on concept cars, but engineers say they have legal issues surrounding them in some markets.

The RZ F-Sport’s exterior updates focus on aerodynamics, including front brake ducts, spoilers, and 20-inch wheels with resin aerodynamic covers. The cabin incorporates F Sport-specific elements such as bolstered seats, aluminium pedals, and special dynamic ambient lighting. A new exterior paint option, Neutrino Grey, is exclusive to the F Sport model.

The RZ becomes Lexus’ first model to adopt a steer-by-wire system, replacing the mechanical steering column with electronic controls. Although this was promised in the pre-facelift model it never appeared and the company has made some revisions following customer and press feedback.

The rectangular-shaped steering yoke now offers a bigger offers a 200-degree lock-to-lock range to make it feel more natural, and adjustable gear ratios based on speed. The system is designed to minimize vibrations while improving low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability.

All RZ variants now feature a revised 77kWh battery and more efficient motors, contributing to an expected range increase of up to 60 miles. Charging improvements include a 22kW AC onboard charger and battery pre-conditioning, reducing cold-weather charging times by approximately 30 minutes.

The lineup will comprise of three powertrains: 221bhp in the RZ 350e; 376bhp in the RZ 500e; and 402bhp in the RZ 550e F Sport. The AWD models now offer a 1,500kg towing capacity, doubling the previous limit.

Structural reinforcements and suspension retuning are said to enhance rigidity and ride comfort.  Noise reduction measures include added soundproofing in the floor, tonneau cover, and rear door areas.

The revised RZ range will arrive in the UK in early 2026.
