The reinvention of Lotus continues apace with the launch of the Emeya.
The new electric four-door saloon follows quickly on the heals of Eletre electric SUV launched last year, and continues Lotus's expansion as not simply a traditional sports car maker.
A saloon car it may be but there's plenty of sporty performance, though. The Emeya's chief rivals are Porsche's Taycan and the Tesla Model S Plaid, and it's being billed as a 'four-door hyper GT'.
The new four-door's model line-up is expected to remain relatively close to the Eletre's, with the firm only revealing performance data for the top version so far. Powered by a 102kWh battery, the car will pack 893bhp from twin electric motors allowing a 0-62mph sprint time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of over 155mph.
Top version will pack 893bhp and a 102kWh battery Lotus is tight-lipped about the car's range but has said it'll be compatible with 350kW DC rapid charging, which will be able to add 93 miles of range in just five minutes.
Just like the Eletre SUV, the Emeya features a raft of clever aerodynamic gizmos to boost efficiency but also traction, such as a 280mm-wide active rear spoiler to push the car into the road. Such features will allowe the car to 'set a new standard in the GT segment for ride and handling excellence', says Lotus.
There's a similar feeling to the Lotus SUV inside, too, with a focus on technology, a sporty design and the use of premium-feeling materials. The dashboard is dominated by a large central touchscreen and there's also a 55-inch projected augmented reality head-up display.
Full details will be announced later this year, before production commencing next year in China.
