MG has quietly announced that a new all-electric estate is on the way. A page on the brand's website shows a single picture of the Volkswagen Golf-sized model, together with a few details to spark interest and get fleet customers to sign up for updates.
The site says: "Until now, electric cars have typically been compact and low-range. Not anymore! All New MG5 EV offers huge amounts of space and 214 miles of electric range.
"Packaged in a highly practical body style, All New MG5 EV offers a boot volume of 578 litres to the roof. This rises to 1,456 litres with the rear seats folded down and loaded to the roof. Inside the cabin, there’s plenty of room for five people to travel in comfort."
The 5 is already on sale in MG's native China as a saloon and estate, wearing Roewe Ei5 badges. It's expected that the version imported to the UK will have the same battery and 140bhp motor as the MG ZS EV which is already on sale here.
There's no word on pricing, but it's expected to cost slightly less than the £25,000 starting price of the ZS. The car is primarily going to be targeted at business users including taxi drivers.
MG has huge ambitions for electric car sales in the UK, with insiders saying it is aiming to be in the top five for EV sales within a few years.
